Between work, family obligations, household chores and other commitments, simply finding the time to work out can be as challenging as a 5-K run.
So what can a person do to achieve and maintain a firmer, sexier shape when time doesn’t permit a trip to the gym, the beach or the bike path? Rule No. 1: keep your body in motion. While many of us may feel strapped to a desk chair for eight hours a day, we still have places to be, even if only a conference room one floor away. Changing how you get from here to there can make all the difference.
While you continue with important rituals such as eating wisely, getting enough sleep, and exercising when possible, here are two everyday habits that can exercise your body without you even noticing it.
Don’t Park So Close To Me
Whether arriving at the office or the mall, forget about hawking those front-row parking spaces. In fact, do the opposite and drive to the far edge of the lot where traffic might be a little thinner. The benefits of walking have been well-documented, and if you make a habit of parking farther from the door, the steps can really add up. As a side bonus, it’s also a great way to reduce the number of door dings your car suffers.
Climb To New Heights
The elevator might be tempting, but resist the urge (at least some of the time) and head to the stairwell instead. Walking stairs is a great way to burn calories, tighten your thighs and firm those buttocks. If you work or live in one of the upper floors of a high-rise, get off the elevator a few floors early and walk the rest of the way. If you’re up and down the elevator frequently, make a game of it and walk up but ride down, or vice versa. Every step you take gets you that much closer to the figure you crave.
